Tuesday, September 24, 2002, noon: I just called the offices of my Congressional delegation, Senator Patrick J. Leahy, Senator James M. Jeffords, and Representative Bernard Sanders. I asked each staffer what the numbers were regarding calls for and against war with Iraq. Both Leahy's and Jeffords' staffers said that the calls were predominantly against war, but they couldn't give me numbers. Sanders' staffer told me that the numbers were 600 against war and 1 for war.

Its is imperative that we keep letting our Senators and Representatives know that we are against war. It matters. They are accountable to us and to their consciences, just as the pretender in the White House is ultimately accountable to us and whatever excuse he may have for a conscience.
