In Montpelier Vermont today over 1200 people gathered on the lawn of the state capital in -10 degree weather (minus ten degrees) to express their support for peace. Speakers included author Grace Paley, Rev. William Sloane Coffin, Sister Miriam Ward, and others. In addition to the speakers the crowd was led in song by local musicians, singing "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" among other anti-war anthems.

It was bitter cold, yet the crowd was passionate as they sang and cheered for the speakers. People of all ages attended, including families with children, people in their 70's and 80's, and even some dogs. Demonstrators carried UN flags, US flags, Earth flags, and many creative placards.

There was a small contingency who appeared to be pro-war. They had signs calling for support for the troops, and support for Bush. One of them is the son of a serviceman currently in the middle-east.

This was one of over 650 rallies being held around the world today, all in support of Peace.
